The department traces its history to the “Sanitary Engineering” department founded in 1967 within the Faculty of Engineering and Economics. In 1972 a separate department of “Heat and Gas Supply and Ventilation” emerged from it; its first head, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Qo‘shmon Umarovich Bo‘riyev, led it from 1973 to 1980.
In 1976 the institute graduated its first 18 qualified specialists in heat and gas supply and ventilation. In the following years experienced teachers joined the department from industry and other universities, while talented graduates completed targeted training at the Kyiv Civil Engineering Institute and returned as assistants.
Today the Mechanical Engineering department trains bachelor's and master's students in heat and gas supply, ventilation and engineering communications; it is headed by Z.X. Fayziyev, PhD in Technical Sciences.
