Iroda Qurbonova, a first-year basic doctoral candidate at the Department of Geomatics Engineering of Mirzo Ulugbek Samarkand State Technical University, is conducting scientific research in the shrinking areas of the Aral Sea as part of a research group led by Professor Vaxob Rafikov, Doctor of Geographical Sciences.
The research currently focuses on the geo-ecological state of the exposed seabed of the Aral Sea, as well as on the processes by which the “Aralkum Desert” is forming and developing.
As part of her PhD dissertation in the “Geoinformatics” (11.00.07) speciality, Iroda Qurbonova is researching the assessment and mapping of the natural-reclamation state of the irrigated lands of the Republic of Karakalpakstan through geoinformation analysis.
This research will help ensure sustainable ecological development in the Aral region, and is also of significant importance for identifying and finding solutions to ecological problems using modern geotechnologies.
