Today an important cooperation agreement was signed between Mirzo Ulugbek Samarkand State Technical University and China's HENGDA construction quality supervision bureau.
Under the agreement, a “Research Institute for Construction Engineering Quality Control” will be set up; the institute is envisaged to become one of the leading laboratories in the Central Asian region, to carry out quality control for construction projects, and to be a site of practice and research for students and scientists.
HENGDA will invest 4 million US dollars, with 1 million dollars' worth of technical equipment delivered first. The university will provide 2,000 square metres of research space, 200 square metres of office space, and living and infrastructure arrangements for the institute's work.
The institute will be jointly run: HENGDA's contribution is the equipment, SDTU's is the premises and research staff.
Placements will also be created for students, cooperation will take place on research projects, and international conferences and forums will be organised.
The agreement is a practical result of China–Uzbekistan cooperation in science and education under the Belt and Road Initiative, and contributes to regional development.
